Pros

One word: benefits. Also, they did transfer me across the country after only six months of working there, which made life a little easier at the time.

Cons

Shame. Working for a corporate monster. The stink of bad coffee. Having to pretend I like coffee. Admitting to people that I work there. The management was always kinda wacky and really into pretending they cared. The main thing for me, thought, is that I wanted (and now have) work where I effect positive change in my community. Starbucks was work where I memorized yuppies' favorite coffee drinks and had to make macchiatos incorrectly (I grew up in Italy, suckas, and that is definitely not a macchiatio).

Pros

The benefits are pretty comprehensive including medical, dental, vision, stock purchase programs, 401k, stock options and paid vacation. They also offer free coffee each week and free drinks during shifts. For food and merchandise, and drinks outside of the time frame, they give partners a 30% discount off their purchases. If you enjoy people, there is a constant stream of people to talk to, and many repeat customers who become very comfortable with store employees sharing about their day, what is going on in their lives, sometimes bringing presents and treats. Some regular customer treat the employees like family. It is an upbeat, energetic place to be.

Cons

It is hard work. There are many tasks to do, and little time to do it. Between the constant stream of customers, cleaning, stocking, and various store support tasks, there is very little down time. You need to balance customer needs with store needs because , if you neglect either, it will bite you later. Often, the company gives directives that takes time, but does not allow the stores labor to accomplish them. With all the store support cutbacks, getting anything done for the stores (repairs, computer support, order support, policy questions, hr issues, accounting issues, etc.) has become difficult. Often stores do not know who to go to for store support since most of the support staff has been let go.

Pros

Great benefits packages! My husband and I were both on his benefits for about 140 a month. That is amazing. Most of the other employees are really friendly and I made some great friends through working there. Discounts and free coffee are always a plus. When the company was doing well, they really tried to take care of there partners. The pay isn't minimum wage, and it wasn't bad working part time while I was in college. They have great programs that will help partners in need. It feels good to work for a company that strives to help the world community.

Cons

Their benefits are great but their pay is not if you are trying to solely live off of it. They are constantly changing their standards and then get rude when it takes partners time to adjust. They are losing their "coffee shop" experience and becoming more like McDonalds. They are changing their labor management which means they are probably going to be taking away part-time benefits soon. They shift managers and district managers around like musical chairs. Customers can be very rude. They black out MONTHS for managers to take vacation. Their expectations tend to be unrealistic and yet they continue to push for them.
