Pros

Honestly, not really any pros besides getting paid weekly but thats only in three states, MA being one of them. You may or may not meet some cool people on your team but it’s terrible otherwise.

Cons

The pay is nowhere near what it should be as a store manager. Salaried at 77k but was working 50+ hours a week with no support, no work life balance, my body was aching from doing everything on my own. DMs are lazy and only complain but don’t coach or mentor at all. Not to mention the turnover is high because the physical labor of the job sends baristas running despite pay being $18 an hour + tips. The stress of this job ages you terrible and I was always the only woman of color in the room once I hit the manager role. They keep that company alllll white just how they like it. And don’t even get me started on being a woman in a corporate setting…

Pros

Benefits Store Culture Fast paced Exercises Problem Solving The ability to impact lives daily

Cons

The expectation is that you are on call 24/7 so you need to be attached to your phone at all times or else you are labeled as an unsupportive manager if you can’t answer all call or all questions at all hours of the day. God forbid you miss a call and your DM gets a whiff of it. Be prepared to be micromanaged by unqualified District Managers aka (The Regional Directors favorite Store managers) Have an understanding that partners (employees) have a higher priority and importance than Store Managers. Store Manager role is the most forgotten role and abused role in the company. Career Progression is a joke and even when you try to reach out to HR they try to gaslight you into thinking differently as if you are always the problem. Culture is only driven in store by the store leader….. the vision and the “culture” Starbucks wants to live up to is destroyed by local leaders trying to show success through only comps and numbers. When people are treated as a tool to drive numbers versus actual people the vision does. The myth of how we earn labor is even unknown by the company. The biggest pain point can’t even be explained. “There’s an algorithm” awesome!!! If you can’t explain the actual algorithm that’s a problem. There has to be a better way corporate can manage RDs and DMs. I’ve had quite a few and to say there are some terrible ones in the mix that are completely destroying what a great company this is….. it’s sad….. very sad.

Pros

benefits are good and the coworkers (partners) were great

Cons

management from above was terrible. i was assaulted on two separate occasions by people who came into our store with swasticas on their hat and sleeves. when i addressed this with management their response was “my identity has brought more violence in their store then they have ever seen and i should look for somewhere else to work” (i’m Native American) required 100 percent availability any and all days of the week. many times was called in last minute to work a changed shift. no work life balance, was encouraged to look at the job as if i was married to it. would perform duties outside my role that were management level tasks for barista pay with a promise of someday getting a promotion. after 3 years there was no raise or promotion and yet the work i was doing was higher level tasks. (schedule management, inventory placement and ordering, promotional ad making… ect.)
