Pros

Depending on how you pick up new things, it's really easy to learn how to make their products, operate machines, know how the store is run, and create a good customer experience. One really good pro you can get from working at Starbucks is building communication skills, gaining food and drink preparation experience, and obtaining good leadership skills.

Cons

Based on personal experiences, there have been instances where the job will get overwhelming. By overwhelming, I mean that it can be a job where it can be difficult to juggle many tasks at one time. From not only making drinks, fixing a problem, and communicate to the best of our abilities, and having co-workers who either don't want to work with you or make the shift a nightmare. Personal experience-wise, some (not all) people who I have worked with can be very rude with not only how they talk to you but how they show their actions. Company-wise, I can say that Starbucks is a company that is solely based on customer connections and making the moment right every time even if it means getting yelled at by customers or treated like a dog by them. I have been cursed out many times by customers when I try to make the moment right and it always blows up in my face. Starbucks gives customers the upper hand even if they are right or wrong in the situation and the employees can get bad repercussions from it. Overall, Starbucks can have its good and bad moments just like any job.

Pros

Great people, high integrity, desire to do the right things, care for employees

Cons

Passive aggressive culture, unclear or consensus decision making makes it challenging to get anything done in a highly matrixed organization. Inequities exist in terms of workload across roles and teams.

Pros

Starbucks is very passionate about the history of coffee, and the company itself; working there entails learning a lot about what is means to produce drinks like espresso, what it is, where it came from, and how it is meant to taste. I loved that my training process involved tasting everything, learning to make everything, and enjoying this newfound passion. I also loved Starbucks’ very generous partner discount. My favorite part was probably spending time with my coworkers, who made being there something I genuinely wanted to do.

Cons

The pay is not amazing. As a barista, I started off at just above minimum wage - a little over $9 (in Texas). Working alongside coworkers who’d been there for 8+ years, I discovered that after all that time, their pay had only been raised to about $3 more than what I was being paid. My manager was also not very present. She made herself scarce the whole time I worked there; I hardly ever saw or spoke to her, though she was there at every opening behind the bar according to the morning shift. This made it hard for me to create a professional relationship with her, as all my requests regarding shifts were done via email… however I’m guessing this dynamic might’ve been unique to my location.
