Pros

Love my manager and my peers who do their best to support each other and be there for one another. Company offers good benefits, you're eligible for medical even if you're part time, and they even cover 20 free therapy sessions through a program called Lyra. Offered catastrophe pay for a couple months during the start of the pandemic, where you essentially got paid to stay at home. They also offered emergency sick pay if you contracted COVID, and give you paid time off to go get your vaccine. Flexible work schedule, you only need to be available for at least one weekend day. Easy to climb up the work ladder and get promoted if you are dedicated to your role and your team.

Cons

Customers are very aware of company policies and many go out of their way to take advantage of you. We do our best to give people the benefit of the doubt, but a lot of people bear horrible attitudes towards customer service workers and act like they can walk all over you, no matter how nice or accommodating you are to them. You have to have a tough skin in order to work in customer service, and learn how to let things roll off your back.

Pros

It started out fun when I was a barista but when I advanced to be a shift manager it was an entirely different story. It’s too much of a transition from barista to shift manager, my responsibilities went up to the point where I couldn’t handle it and was constantly stressed out. I transferred to different stores twice as a shift manager hoping it would get better and it didn’t, my store managers would not support me enough. I wanted to become a store manager and move my way up at one point but I wasn’t enjoying it so changed my mind and tried to stick it out as a shift manager. I got told I should “step back down “ to a barista because I wasn’t doing a good enough job for the company, that was my wake up call to find another job and quit. Too many expectations there are unrealistic as a shift manager and it just wasn’t worth it. I wasn’t happy. Only a certain kind of person can succeed beyond a barista so it’s not something I’d recommend! If you work for Starbucks you should do it for fun as a barista! The company has awesome benefits and the people I worked with were awesome! A very good company to add to a resume!

Cons

Being a shift manager is too hard with too many expectations, it can get too stressful and it just wasn’t worth it. I don’t recommend advancement for Starbucks unless you want to get constantly reprimanded by your store manager.
