Pros

Engineers are fully integrated into the business and our work delivers direct and obvious value to the business. The engineering department is split into teams and each is aligned with a business unit: Styling, Ops, Marketing and Merchandising. We work closely with our business partners (no product managers) and enjoy a great level of trust. We also get to use the tools and processes within teams we like and are encouraged to deliver high quality software instead of rushing to deliver 'story points'.

Cons

The only downside is the rapid growth of the company, which puts external pressure on everyone to deliver more. We seem to be doing a decent job of managing it sensibly though.

Pros

They donate to useful causes The people I worked directly (peers and direct leads) were lovely people

Cons

They don't properly compensate employees for their work No upward mobility/job growth opportunities They are pivoting the business away from being personalized and people focused to algorithm and tech-only, causing major issues with product and styling Their CEO demands toxic positivity while laying people off and costing livelihoods Disorganized communications and leaders Careless HQ team that lays off employees without knowledge of the work they are doing Layed off hourly styling employees and lied about it to investors Micro-managing Poor training Outsource work from states with worker-focused labor laws and liveable minimum wage rates to states without those resources Lack of transparency Disjointed leadership Toxic start-up culture focused on giving "anniversary pins" and "discount codes" to employees instead of bonuses and pay-raises and promotions
