Pros

This is a great place to work as long as you invest in it. Prospect, build relationships with accounts, and learn from their training. They equip you well and really make it impossible not to find success quickly.

Cons

But once you've sold between $750K and $1M, start looking around for a new opportunity. Every year management will ask you what you expect to sell based on the following: your jobs that are forecasted to close, your relationship with accounts that you think will buy from you, and residual sales. However, they will raise your quota above what you expect regardless of the opportunity you have to meet it. If you have worked to prospect, built relationships with accounts, and learned from their training, then you've done all you can. But in the end they won't take that into consideration when they raise your quota and you cannot achieve it. One more thing and it is just as important, since you should be focused on building relationships. Management is more worried about short term revenues than long term residual business. I've seen, on a number of occasions, situations where they would rather charge the customer when the product doesn't live up to the expectations that the customer has than to take even partial credit and pay for any sort of repair. Of course this jeapordizes future business with the account and makes it even more difficult to meet the quota that management sets.

Great company, strange setup

Pros

Great company. The setup is strange as there is only 1 office location in New Jersey the rest of the company operates using home offices. This setup leaves a lot of freedom. Management is very helpful and supportive. The benefits are fantastic.

Cons

Stonhard is owned by RPM which is a huge worldwide conglomerate, and in the last few years the corporate entity has been tightening the screws, and becoming much more tight fisted down the line.

Unrealistic expectations

Pros

Great head office staff. Training is good at the head office.

Cons

Not very upfront during interview. I was the 6th person hired in 4 years. How can all 6 hires be wrong. There is 2717 accounts in my assigned territory. In the last 5 years only 90 purchased from Stonhard. I failed to reach expectations because I was given 6 weeks to rebuild a territory on life support. Sales were not coming in like they expected. I guess they failed to see what it takes to build a territory. 90 accounts had to get to know me. 6 weeks was not enough. Cold calling and trying to build relationships takes time especially when the average call to one customer takes 17 times to get a yes. 6 weeks was not long enough. My territory and salesmanship was compare to others with established territories.

Thanks for the note as we%E2%80%99re always looking for constructive, real-time feedback. I%E2%80%99m sorry things did not work out during your time at Stonhard. Our Territory Managers are the driving force in what makes Stonhard the industry leader that we are, and a lot of that has to do with our training process. Our new TMs are in training classes for the first 2 years they are on-board, not just 6 weeks. I%E2%80%99m sorry if there was any confusion during the hiring process, and if there is anything in particular, please reach out so we can ensure the transparency in our process that we always strive for. Thanks again for reaching out.
