Pros

I really enjoyed the people I worked with and the atmosphere. It was rewarding to watch students' build their skills and confidence and hear of their progress in school. If you're looking for part-time work (retired, need a second income, etc.) this would be a great fit.

Cons

Part-time, typically you only work around 12 hours a week, if that. Maybe more in the summer. Pay is low, $10/hr. This is for state certified teachers.

Great staff, great students. Corporate was very supportive and listened to what was happening in centers to make things more effective.

Cons

If you are working as a part time teacher at Sylvan, your hours are in the hands of the parents. If there are not enough students to teach, teachers hours get cut. Not fair to teachers, I understand but important to do as a Director.

pretty decent pay per hour other teachers at center were friendly

Cons

not many hours, sometimes only would schedule you for 1 hour many children would be scheduled for 3 hour long sessions; it was developmentally inappropriate since 4 or 5 year old children should not have a 3 hour tutoring session center more concerned with profits than teaching children
