      Smart, Fun, and Fast-Growing IT Company

      Pros

      TCG is a small company (about 80 employees) that has a quirky (but fun) culture. We take pride in being intelligent; fair, honest, and open; and working on projects in the government to save taxpayers money. It's not unusual to get an email from management that includes a Haiku about ISO 9001. When possible (determined by the client), we're encouraged to work from home, and since TCG has a background in telecommuting, as long as we get the job done (and attend team meetings) we're allowed to have rather flexible schedules. TCG is growing, and we are actively encouraged to bring friends and family into the company. This has created some pretty an environment where people seem to really enjoy the work and work that much harder for each other.

      Cons

      Development ranges from maintenance of long-standing systems (some are government systems over 8 years old!) to modern responsive web applications. Sometimes we work in "old" technologies with slow paths to modernization. So to stay on top of the IT landscape, we need to do some extra training outside our projects.

      Pros

      Family friendly, worked PT until ready for FT. Then, when asked FT, got work within my position quickly, great benefits, no internal politics type place

      Cons

      All work either client site or telecommute, no big corporate HQ with lots of people chatting around the coffee pot

      Work/life balance was appreciated, but has growing pains

      Pros

      Work/life balance was good, at one point company felt like they cared about the employees. The CEO cares about his employees and the mission.

      Cons

      As the company grew, the work culture became a negative experience for me, and there was no opportunity for career growth. Did not feel respected by management.

      Well, this review certainly made us unhappy. It’s absolutely on us - we didn’t show you, frequently and loudly, that we care about you. If there are specific people in “management” that you felt didn’t respect you, or specific parts of the work culture that you didn’t find positive, please let us know! We always want to improve, and it sounds like you have specific recommendations that we would find helpful. As to the lack of opportunity for career growth, we completely get it. We’re not a big company - at a certain point in your career, you probably won’t be able to get any further with us because we just don’t have that many positions available. That said, we hope our training budget helped you get the skills you needed to get to your next job. We want you to succeed and thrive, whether here at TCG or somewhere else!
