Pros

Marx suggested that any work done for an employer is exploitative – and as I generally agree with that premise, I believe it is the highest praise that I can give to say that I do not feel “exploited” working for TCG – largely because I believe in the CEO and his sincerity. He is a transparent and intelligent individual, and unlike most CEOs, I do not believe his goal in life is to amass a Scrooge McDuck-esque swimming pool full of gold but to actually help improve the world in meaningful ways. It may not seem like much, but given that many people are desperate to even find work, it must be recognized that to be able to pick to work at a company that respects you and has an actual mission (that doesn’t feel like some made up screed to court millennial employees) is a truly privileged position.

Cons

It’s government work. For technology, that doesn’t always correlate to the sexiest projects. You will not be made into a code “ninja”, or a “hacker”, or a “rockstar”. If you want to stay current on the “bleeding-edge” you will likely need to put in the extra effort on your own part.

Thanks for your glowing praise! While government projects aren’t always the “sexiest”, the projects we work on have far-reaching and profound impacts on the daily lives of Americans and abroad.

TCG Invests in Employee Retention

Pros

The investment to keep you HAPPY is real and as a result, employees are, well, HAPPY! (gasp) Birthday and un-birthday coffees (half-bday month) are one way they do that, which allows you time to sit down and discuss your thoughts about your job with a member of the employee happiness team (yes, there's one of those). This is the kind of thing some new-age thing startups might do, but unheard of in government contracting. One of my favorite 'perks' is tickets to Washington DC area events and sports games. Though you may get hired for one role, there is latitude in the company with other contracts if you end up performing well at what you were hired for if you express interest and have the skills to back it up.

Cons

Sometimes this may come off as "trying to hard," but if you get past that, the benefits of it all are tangible.

Pros

TCG truly cares for their employees. Whether you have a concern or want a raise or even have a need to take off for an extended period of time, the management makes it very easy for you to talk to someone about your concerns. They listen and react and make sure that you are happy with your job, company and coworkers.

Cons

There are not any cons that I can think of, that's why I am going on my 7th year at this great company!
