Heed the recent reviews - not just disgruntled ex-employees
Pros
Tails still has some amazing people, although they seem to be losing a lot of them very quickly. I have never (before or since) worked with so many intelligent and highly capable people as I did at tails.
Cons
As a lot of the amazing people I worked with were still very happy at Tails.com when I left, I decided not to bother leaving a review and put my experience down to personal outlook. However, sadly it seems a lot of the concerns I had back then have only worsened. Tails used to be incredibly customer-centric. We worked on features and changes that came from data and feedback. The team cared about the dogs and customers we served above everything else. Our commercial goals always started with 'What do customers want and need' and then led to how we could monetise or relate to revenue. My understanding from what I've heard from former colleagues (both who have left and who still work there) is that this mentality has totally disappeared. There was a point where, to me, the company's outlook shifted very dramatically. The passion for our customers and dogs was gone and, to me, it felt like profit suddenly became the driving force behind everything, often in spite of our customers' wants and needs, such as relentless the price rises. Regarding the company culture, as others have mentioned, there were already back then some very shady promotions, disappearances and rumours of sexual misconduct and bullying. The reason I'm writing this review now is because I think it's important that these recent reviews aren't just written off as collateral damage from the recent redundancies. Many of the negatives others have highlighted have been years in the making and were central to my decision to depart from the company long before these redundancies happened.
