Pros

The pay is great if you work sales, hit your quota and get accelerators. You can make large sums of money.

Cons

-Issues with commissions every month. Sales personnel should not have to meticulously look at their paychecks for errors. -Tek has not released new products in over 5 years, products are hard to sell as there is better technology out there. Brand is slowly dying due to old plans to sell RF division, which didn't happen, but resulted in years of zero R&D. -They have chosen their fate to continue dying as a brand. It's past the point of no return. -Tek cannot retain people, and the ones who stay, are low performers and yes men/women. Everyone else either leaves, or gets "terminated" for beef with the new VPs, all of whom started in 2023. -Leadership prefers to hire outsiders than to promote from within, a lot of greed and shady behavior around employment.

Pros

Good for punching your card if T&M is on your career path. Make sure you only stay a maximum of 4 years. Good finance based business practices, very little engineering contribution to business plans as had previously been the case. Great place to advance as a woman in this field, as there is a strong initiative towards advancing more women into the company upper ranks.

Cons

Regular “house cleaning” in jettisoning senior staff every Q4. It’s been this way for the last 8 years I’ve been here. Fortive accounting teams run the business and heavily tax the businesses within Tek. Not the typical sort of high tech engineering run place. Not certain if this is good or bad, it’s just an observation. Not a place where you can settle and raise a family, given Tek’s tenancy to “strongly incentivize your departure” if you advance to senior levels. Intense vertical compression of the company, has led to a LOT of downsizing and is constantly re-organizing it’s remaining teams. Pretty much bank on a new manager every 10 months. Very little continuity in projects, with the priority of what you work on changing on a daily basis. Nearly impossible to see the final results of your work, as you will be moved to another program before one completes your current project. Engineering resources are a constant “shell game”.

Pros

Technology is fascinating and cutting-edge. It's really the only reason to work here. Brand is still strong despite lack of investment and management incompetence. Salary is very competitive. There's a lot of opportunity to contribute and improve things, if you're motivated, but don't expect to be rewarded or appreciated for it. There are some great managers who heroically shield their reports from the insanity of upper management. The new president is much more competent than the previous regime, though the recent decision to merge and restructure product lines is unwise.

Cons

Tektronix continues to feed off the carcass of its legacy technologies. Many of its platforms have been dying a slow death due to intentional neglect. Many of the older engineers stifle the career development of younger engineers to protect themselves. Who can blame them, however, with the constant threat of layoffs. Tektronix continues to undermine itself by focusing on expenses and yet expects the tightened resources not to impact R&D and sales efforts. For instance, the sales teams are constantly fighting for demo equipment and engineering teams never have enough prototypes. But, the inventory numbers look great!
