All the best of intentions but a real lack of reality from leadership
Pros
Some of the most passionate individuals work at Bay Club and they attract top hospitality and wellness talent. The product is innovative to the industry with a lot of potential. Employees have unprecedented access to leadership within the organization and with outside investors. It is a great way to gain practical, real-life experience in how a business operates.
Cons
Management treats employees like they're doing them a favor by employing them instead of valuing the talent that they have. They believe that they have a competitive compensation plan, from salary to benefits. Reality is they compensate probably 20-30% below market rates. Management has never done compensation studies so their assumption is baseless. Employees are overworked and exhausted. Management dangles the equity carrot in front of employees but the reality is that equity has little value to anyone below upper management. And when you take into account that the equity payouts will occur only every 5-8 years, it means nothing. Competitive pay that someone can count on every year would mean a lot more. Management does NOT value employee's work life balance. They have a lot of team members who are willing to work hard and go above and beyond what is asked of them. However, employees are worked to the bone until they either have nothing left to give or just don't care anymore. There is a horrible culture of nepotism within the executive leadership team, led by the EVP Marketing. This has led to a culture crushing divide of the "haves" and "have-nots".
