A good organization that is rotting from the top

Pros

Asset to the BVI and disability communities. Part of great programs that help the mission.

Cons

Completely toxic leadership that is rotting from the very top down. More concerned about money than mission. Inconsistent HR policies that seemed to change depending on who the CEO wants to hire or make allowances for. Overly involved Board of Directors that are completely out of touch with the needs of the company. Micro-managing and controlling CEO who consistently contradicts herself with almost every decision. During peak COVID pandemic, could not work from home more than one day a week, and encouraged not take that day either for fear of disappointing CEO who doesn't understand how to accurately measure productivity. Uses the completely chaotic "ready, fire, aim" as business model. Zero trust within the organization. Very political and petty environment. Lots of back-stabbing and two-faced actions among senior leadership teams. Not concerned at about resolving systemic issues within the organization.

In 2021, The Chicago Lighthouse was named a State of Illinois DHS/DRS Employer of the Year as a result of our continued focus on diverse employment practices. The Board of Directors and CEO are actively engaged in evolving the organization’s revenue model to broaden the number of those who can be served by our programs and services. An organizational restructure implemented in the summer of 2021 has brought new individuals to key leadership roles who are committed and aligned to a set of three-year strategic initiatives that will enhance The Lighthouse’s ability for staff and volunteers to deliver its mission, as well as continue to drive focused enhancements to the culture of the organization.

Pros

My co-workers and the training staff are amazing. Definitely feel cared about. Pay is weekly. Food is pretty plentiful, contests. Talking to patients because everyday goes fast and every day is different. There are lots of advancement opportunities.

Cons

Need more floor support. The policies didn't bother me, but I get it they are pretty strict. The pay could have been better.
