Opportunity for Improvement

Pros

The three original founders are the reason you want to work at Vertex! They have continuously given their blood ,sweat and tears over the years. Their enthusiasm is infectious. Generously the founders created an ESOP as an added incentive and thank you for their employees dedication to the success of the company.

Cons

The management team comes across as superior. There appears to be a lot of talking with very little action. If you are not apart of the elite, an EVP or a corporate operations member your voice is not heard. Many concerns are disregarded with the notion that it is one or two unhappy people. Why participate in all the surveys if suggestions for improvements are ignored?

Pros

-Open door policy communication. You can get in touch with the president of the company and ask him any question that may be on your mind. Whether it's a suggestion, curiosity about the company, or how his weekend was. This policy trickles down throughout management and I have worked under several managers. I have never felt like I couldn't speak my mind. -Great benefits package and ESOP. Great healthcare and 401K contribution. -Ability to work remotely on occasion if you have shown your work ethic to be good. -Opportunities in numerous environmental consulting fields. The job varies across the company departments and are dependent on your office location. You have the opportunity to learn from all of the departments through trainings or simply having conversations with your colleagues. -Office culture is very respectful. -Work hard, show effort, take responsibility, and you will thrive here.

Cons

It's a client-driven company so there are some times when you are expected to respond to a client outside of normal business hours.

Thank you for taking the time to write this review! Ideas and suggestions are welcome and management is open to listening. We agree that the benefits, Employee Stock Ownership Program, healthcare, and 401k contribution are all great additions. There is an online training program being created to allow our employee-owners to learn more about other areas of the company. VERTEX appreciates hard working and motivated employee-owners. We value our clients and operate with a sense of urgency, so responding outside of normal business hours is some times the best thing to do in order to keep that great relationship!

Pros

- Lots of Opportunity - Culture of hard work and "can do attitude" - Very approachable management (includes executive management of the company) - entrepreneurial spirit that extends to entry level staff - Rapid career trajectory for those who are willing to work for it

Cons

- Not sure this is a con, but VERTEX is full of hard working ambitious people. If you don't quite have the drive you can get lost in the shuffle.
