Pros

Opportunity to build long term net worth with our ownership benefits. Meet with a variety of high level executives, business owners, attorneys, and other people of influence in the KC area. Culture of rewarding people for the results of their efforts, not off of personalities/politics

Cons

Building a clientele can be a long and difficult process. Like any sales position, you face a lot of rejection. Must be mentally tough to keep the long term vision in mind. It is a lot of work the first several years in the business. There is no time clock, but to be successful in your first few years it will require putting in 10+ hour work days in order to do the necessary work to keep a full pipeline of prospects to call on. There's no company car, company phone, or company credit card. We are all owners of the business and we pay out the profits back to the employees in the form of dividends, profit sharing and bonuses. The less we spend as a company, the more $$$ can be put into the accounts of the employees who put in the work.

Pros

Only pro is that you become well connected in the community and can leverage that for next job.

Cons

Worst place to work. Took me six months to heal mentally after quitting. The company brain washes you into thinking you are only as good as your sales and if you're not hitting your numbers there is something wrong with you personally. Didn't change quota/ expectations during lockdown when we couldn't go out and see our clients. Hitting quota barely gives you $2,500 a month. The amount of money you make is not worth the time and energy you have to put into your business. The clothing is horribly constructed. My suits never fit and I worked there.... my clients has issues with their clothing ripping, not fitting, not lasting, etc. Male management thinks they can tell the women how to dress, do hair, type of makeup and nail polish they need to wear. I was instructed that I cannot do this job in flats and must wear heels at all time. Natural makeup was "unacceptable" and I needed to wear more makeup. The company is completely archaic. So outdated. Do. Not. Work. Here. They sell you on a bunch of lies that you'll make $80-100k in your first year. Really they expect you to live a life of poverty for 5 years while being a slave to the wealthy.

As a company that really strives to build and develop people, we're sorry to hear you had a negative experience. If there are any situations that you would like to discuss privately in more detail, we are always open to talking—just email careerdivision@tomjames.com. If there are any scenarios where we haven't upheld our principles and values, we would want to know and address immediately. Without being argumentative, we do like to take the opportunity when relevant to point out to any potential readers feedback that is factually incorrect. While we appreciate feedback of any variety, it's also important to be factual: - Quota varies for everyone at Tom James according to prior year's production. New Partners have the lowest quota, which tracks to a $40,000/year income, not $2500/month. - On dress for women, in general all companies regardless of who is in management will provide guidance and standards to all employees, regardless of gender. We do have dress guidelines for both men and women, but nothing published contains anything regarding hair style or makeup beyond general guidance to groom properly. - We don't believe it constitutes 'lying' to share the examples of existing sales professionals who have earned various lucrative incomes through the opportunity. In most cases we are able to also show activity levels that demonstrate a clear connection between effort and reward which is common in sales anywhere. It's true not everyone will earn those figures in their first year, but everyone has their own journey to success in sales (which is really what our culture is all about). - We have many women in leadership, from director-level corporate positions to senior organization leader positions within the sales force, and this trend will continue with more and more women entering our sales force every year. We thank you again for your comments and, again, encourage you to connect directly if there are specific situations we need to address.

Pros

I only put 5 stars so that the fake 5 star reviews would be exposed! They try to write fake 5 star reviews - this is not one of them.

Cons

Hmm where to I begin. Everything? You will work like a DOG, chasing people in the street asking if they want to buy suits. They send you to sales school to drink the coolaide and make you think Tom James really loves it’s employees - they don’t. It’s commission ONLY. You do all the work, so much micro managing. The horror stories are unreal! Ask around first and hear from yourself. You won’t make any money because they charge you for everything and take most of everything you sell.
