Pros

-benefits are great, even part time employees are offered them -Work is easy -Laid back atmosphere -Corporate is very involved -Pay is competitive

Cons

-Everyone is out for themselves, and blame the assistants for everything -Many racy remarks that if you report are not kept confidential -Assistants are ignored (when there is a bonus meant for the entire store, the sales reps use it all) -Assistants are mistreated (like maids around the office at times...it is not in my job description to do the dishes)

Pros

gain experience that translates well to a lot of other sales settings. Company does a great job of teaching you goal setting and hard work. Get to work with successful people and build great connections. Great reward trips and opportunity to make good money from the first month if you have a good start.

Cons

it is a constant hustle, every month it starts over from the beginning (straight commissions) and people tend to burn out . Very high turn over since the people that are actually successful from the get go are few and far between, but sales for the company stay constant since other reps will just take over the clients of people that left. Required to constantly be face for company for mistakes, timing issues, etc, which leads to a lot of apologizing and begging for sales.

Pros

You can make money if you sell your soul to this company

Cons

late hours, work never ends, full commission no base, even all the area directors and VP's still have to go out and sell clothes to make money. They try to convince you to think the way they do by 'affirmations' and daily goals EVERY.SINGLE.DAY. They got too personal with me and I don't like to mix my personal life with my work life. They want you to 'buy in' to their company ahem 'cult' so you will go out there and bust your butt and maybe make money your first year. You probably won't make any money to begin with, so I hope you have a good savings account. They make you purchase $3000 worth of custom clothes to wear while you are selling, and take a piece of it out of your paycheck to give back to the company, this is not an option you have to get these clothes. If you try and quit they will tell you to evaluate the way you think or to consider your character traits because you don't think like they do. I never even thought the clothes were that great, I saw several items with holes in the arms and fabrics that were torn. The clothes are so expensive that when you take out the price sheet to prospective clients they all gasp in horror because so few people will spend $1000 on a pair of custom pants. They make people feel awkward in public so if you don't like to prowl on people and approach random people on the street this job is NOT for you. To gain your client base you walk into a building without an appointment and just drop in on some folks or stop them on the street, while they are eating lunch, or heck even if they are talking to their friends! Seriously consider this job before you accept, I learned a lot but would never go back.

Tom James Company Response

Thanks for your feedback. We don't intend to spin or cover up any comments, positive or negative, about our company, but there are a few objective points we'd like to point out for anyone considering employment with our company: 1. We do have a goals and affirmations culture, and believe attitude is the #1 determinant of success here. 2. It takes time to build a business with our company, and an income. We do have a Training Assistance Pay program that supplements commissions to provide a stable income during the first two years of every Sales Professional's career. 3. Employees are not required to wear our clothing, though it's highly recommended since it's difficult to sell a clothing to a customer if you don't wear it yourself. The $3000 figure is a retail value and does not reflect the employee discount and clothing credits earned on sales that this employee would have received. 4. We do have product lines where a pair of pants can approach $1000. We also have product lines where a pair of pants is around $150. Our custom suits range from $599 to more than $3000. We feel this price range is relevant to a wide range of potential prospects. 5. "Prowling", or just meeting potential prospects while out in the field, is one way our salespeople find clients. Some—a majority, actually—work by referral. Most of our salespeople find the prospecting methods they are most skilled at and comfortable with and use those methods to build their business. We train on 4 different methods to accommodate different markets, temperaments and styles. We do agree that this is a job that requires a lot of hard work and dedication. Thanks for for providing your feedback.
