Pros

Teaches you how to survive despite lack of support and training. If you can he successful here you can be successful anywhere.

Cons

They lie to you constantly, fake sales numbers to make things look better than they are, and shove the stock down your throat. You are 100% commission and they haven’t raised or changed the commission structure in 25+ years.

As a company that really strives to build and develop people, we're sorry to hear you had a negative experience. If there are any situations that you would like to discuss privately in more detail, we are always open to talking—just email careerdivision@tomjames.com. If there are any scenarios where we haven't upheld our principles and values, we would want to know and address immediately. Tom James is dedicated to providing training, coaching, technology platforms, 1-1 meetings, lucrative monthly bonuses and a positive culture in order to empower our Sales Professionals to be successful. Our number one goal is building people. We have recently implemented a new pay plan structure, in part in response to concerns like yours. Tom James provides fully comprehensive medical coverage, a robust benefits program, and our employees are W2'd employees. We offer a traditional 401(k) matching program, employee ownership, and also a profit sharing program where we share our profits back to the employees at the end of each year. Thank you for leaving your comments. Best of luck to you in your future endeavors.

Pros

The people you meet are great. There is a lot of group goals to help motivate eachother towards.

Cons

No real work life balance. Only advice from management is to dial more. If you struggle and only make $1k a month, you might not be able to pay your bills or feed your family, management will let you know that you can achieve “whatever pay you’d like, you just have to dial the phone more”. It is super cult like, everyone in the company is brainwashed and every meeting is around worshiping a founder who past away years ago. Current CEO is good, just the company culture is CULTure.

Pros

Coming out of college, Tom James provides the best training for a young person entering the workforce. The trips I won were incredible as were the colleagues I met on them from around the world. Sales and leadership training were constant, we were always being pushed to be our best and to help the people under us. I will take these lessons with me wherever I chose to work and I am so grateful for them.

Cons

I worked 24/7 and had no personal life or if I did my sales struggled. Once I left I realized how culty the company was -- they normalized constant anxiety and if you could barely pay your bills that was your own fault. I'm not saying there wasn't a support system I am just saying the support system was very culty. If you have been there for over a year, you are basically forced into leadership where you have to give up clients and referrals and take on an insane workload whether you were ready for that or not. President's club is the main goal for new people and that's around $65,000/year and the average time to hit that is 3 years . Some people hit it 1 year but not many so be prepared to make $35,000 your first year.

Thanks for taking the time to share your perspective! We're so glad your time here help you develop skills and habits that will help you in your life and career, although we wish you were still here using them to help us build! Our opportunity, which is more entrepreneurial in nature than most, does have its share of hard work and long hours at certain times and seasons, especially when starting out. It's great that you were able to persevere and build your business up to the level of achieving our trips. There are just a couple of things we'd like to point out from a factual standpoint just for a balanced understanding on a few topics: 1. We don't force anyone into leadership, period. Of our 450 person sales force, approximately 200 are in some form of leadership and 250 are not. While our leadership opportunity is a great career path, it is not for everyone. Our desire is for each Sales Professional to take from the overall opportunity the parts that resonate with them and build in that direction. Those that DO pursue leadership are not required to give up clients or referrals. Giving referrals to new partners to help them start out was part of our training culture up until 2020, but our more recent investment in a lead development strategy leveraging a sales engagement platform and a few premium prospecting tools has allowed us to support new partners' lead generation needs without leaders providing their referrals. 2. Our average 1st year income is $52,000. Average 2nd year income is $65,000. Average 3rd year is $78,000. What is missing from the above review is sales bonuses for exceeding quota and base pay support through our training assistance pay program for those who struggle a little more out of the gates. Also, leadership pay and other forms of income for 2nd and 3rd year partners as they develop their careers beyond sales are missing from above. From a pure commissions standpoint, the numbers are accurate, but in terms of actual incomes, what was posted is not the actual reality. Outside of those couple of clarifiers, again, we're thankful for the review and wish you all the best in your next endeavor!
