Pros

You can spend more one to one time with patients if you don't mind working 10-12hrs/day. Even feeling exhausted and having little time left for family, there is gratitude in teaching and providing comfort and understanding to patients and families. I guess the fact that the nurses who were to orient in the field send new nurses home at or before noon to study orientation book so as not to interfere with their plans could be a pro. But difficult to learn a new computer system that way.

Cons

Extreme amount of tension within the hospice team particularly the nurses. No hospice leadership. New nurses get dumped on as far as assignments regardless of tasks or geographic location. Patients who live in the outskirts of the county are not able to receive visits as frequently as those who are clustered in a particular geographic area. Even though false documentation signatures and time entries all make the surveyors happy it's detrimental to patient care and standards of nursing practice. Was given false information at time of hire as far as working territory and hours to be assigned.
