Pros

Schedule is flexible. Employees in retail stores are great to work with. Team Environment.

Cons

Training to the TSC standard is uninvolved to say the least. Management above store management does not care about employees. Recognition program "Country Mile" is a joke to say the least in recognizing or showing appreciation to its employees. Company cuts payroll then complains about stores not having stocked shelves, rotated merchandise, & extraordinary customer service. How do you expect to have any of this with a less employees throughout the month. Upper management does not use common sense. Personal Experience: having shipments of plants & trees sent to a northern store that cannot survive in weather that is -30. Employee discount is obnoxious

Pros

Plenty of variety everyday; no day is ever the same.

Cons

Lack of staffing due to payroll budgets. It is tremendously hard to provide the level of service to our customers if we can only schedule 2 openers, a mid and 2 closers espseeing a increase of foot traffic and a increase in sales. It is a strain to be able to spend enough quality time training and developing employees properly. It is a constant game of chasing your tail even though it is preached to you to train and delegate.

Pros

Great customers - very few difficult or angry customers. Very small store employee team so you get to know your people well. Very low sales volume

Cons

You will not make much money as a manager here. Bonuses are based of making sales & profit goals. Budgets are severely skewed to benefit new stores - existing stores carry a much heavier load. The goals are less realistic each year so making a bonus is harder and harder. My bonus two years ago was about $10k - last year was $2k - I can already see this year it is likely to be zero. We have a new payroll structure that cuts my payroll to skeleton crew level - you are a manager in title only - if you work here get used to working alone. Most days it is the manager and one other person and you run like crazy all day. The computer systems are very old and slow and the replenishment system is outdated beyond description and has huge blind spots. Store managers have absolute zero product ordering or merchandising freedom - everything is dictated so inexperienced managers can't hurt themselves. The company measures your store's "selling culture" by how many extended warranties you sell with products and how many high margin add on items you sell with each item. If you have ideas keep them to yourself - the company believes they have it all figured out and don't want input from you. If you have no experience this may be your job - if you have any retail experience you will be frustrated every day you work here. This is a job that will give you just enough money to keep gas in the tank and the lights on while you look for another job - this is NOT a place where you can make a career. They are not bad people - they just don't know quite as much as they think they do and the pay is absolutely poor. I saw one of the salary listings where it had company stock bonuses and profit sharing listed - this is completely false. An average store manager will be lucky to make $50k after bonus here.
