Everything Depends

Pros

awesome customers, good benefits for full time employees, not open horribly late for retail bonuses given when and if you beat plan Our customers are mostly regulars and an amazing source of information/networking

Cons

EVERYTHING depends literally - if you have a good manager, things are great. If you have someone who's not so good, things go down hill fast. If you have a good team, things are fun and everyone works hard, if you have lumps, resentment builds and work becomes miserable The work is physical and hard and a lot of what you end up having to do it apologize to customers because you don't have product in stock that's on sale (Black Friday was a joke, we had nothing and could get nothing) Plan on having tons of warehouse refuse dumped on your freight days if you're in a high volume store - they like to send the stuff they find hiding in corners out to the stores for no reason. Pay could be better considering the physicality of the work and the amount of product knowledge you're expected to have/learn plan on being micromanaged to death - metrics metrics metrics UGH! And being yelled at by customers for phone captures at POS for months on end Sales Plan is ridiculous. We're being cut on hours in the store, save money save money save money but the company is cheering on $5 billion sales reached how pathetic is it? About once a month I go to the Dollar Store on the way to work to buy Spic N Span and cleaning products because we can't get them for the cleaning system they have - but we get points off our DM visit if the place isn't clean. Scheduling is all over the place too, it's hard to have a life working here

Pros

None this company talks about work hard have fun make money. I think they forgot the fun part. It's more like work hard get made promises that upper management doesn't keep.

Cons

Unkept promises Hr that is always looking for a way to fire you Unrealistic time lines Understaffed and underpaid Thank less job Just move on this company will suck the life out of you stress you out. Tell you that all your hard work will pay off with a promotion to store manager then back door you and promote someone else after you put in 70 hours a week to keep a store open.

Pros

Lots of learning if you are willing to put in the hours, when it comes to merchandising. Most of the financials are plug and play and don't take a of thinking.

Cons

Once you get put on salary, upper management expects you to work longer hours. 52 hours per week were required by store managers, but often were required to push 65+ hours.
