Pros
This is a good place to start your career. They will pay for lots of extra training and your IAI certification but you want to move on ASAP.
Cons
TPD looks down upon its CSU and severely underutilizes it within an investigative capacity. They promote a "progressive" outlook within the department but are very regressive in that detectives process crime scenes and the CSU just stands there and takes pictures. CSU is not trusted to process major crimes, and patrol/detectives de not take what you say seriously. The accredited, forensics best practices that you follow are merely "one way to skin a cat" in the eyes of detectives. Patrol also has no understanding of your job and tries to tell you how to do it. The unit was recently accredited. While this is a good thing, the superintendent is very overbearing about it and you have to worry about being armchair quarterbacked with everything you do. You aren't allowed to write your own reports. Everything has to be copy-pasted from a badly written "report template." Additionally, tools like corrective actions and personnel performance reports are used as weapons by supervisors who take a disliking to a particular staff member, rather than what they're supposed to be used for which is helping the CSS become a better CSS. Supervisors play favorites and rules are applied inconsistently. There is a lot of bullying and passive aggressive behavior in the office. One particular supervisor, who has his own office, boasts about getting people he doesn't like fired. He also doesn't take calls or really do any work but will happily write people up who are hesitant to take calls a half hour before their shift ends. Morale is low. People here are either lazy, checked out or super smart but lack common sense.
