Pros

Work-life balance is great Provides training Officers have good OT and pay opportunities

Cons

Bureaucracy was stifling. It feels like you have to write a memo to get approval to write the real memo. New approaches to problems, not welcome. Questioning the status quo, not welcome. Professional staff salaries are not that great Slow promotion track

Pros

Highly visible government agency that is mission driven. Depending on which office you work in; there are opportunities to travel and see the work done by agents and officers.

Cons

Management isn't held accountable for anything and seems to be rewarded through promotions for bad behavior. Managers are rated on their leadership skills without any feedback from employees. Developing employees to become top performers is not a priority to managers. It seems that the agency would rather continue to pay contractors than invest in their own employees.
