Pros

-Full health benefits at both low and high costs -Competitive Pay -Opens doors to further federal employment -Guaranteed raises each year on federal pay scale -Union availability

Cons

-Unclear what hours you will be working pre-hire. -Extremely long hiring process, expecting a split-second decision when accepting a position which could be cross-country. -All shifts and positions are seniority based, and you are starting at the bottom with a boat-load of people above you who have been waiting years to get the position and location they want. Don't accept a location you aren't willing to stay at for more than a few years before you ever get to go back home.

Pros

As with most federal jobs, work-life balance is good, benefits are good, job security is good.

Cons

Management describes itself as militaristic. Absolutely no care for well-being of employees. No communication, no innovation supported, no empathy is supported at the labs. Poor training/onboarding even when I communicated from my side about things I needed. Management just does not listen to their employees and it is prevalent in the employees who have been there for a while. Very sad that that work culture has been cultivated for so long.
