Pros

Pay is not subject to downturns in economy. Physical plant well-maintained, indoor work, not many variations in routine.

Cons

Different locations doing the same work are allowed different levels of completion and proficiency. Guidelines and procedures, while complex and hidebound, are not employed uniformly and are often very contradictory. No benefits of any kind. NO opportunity for advancement. Work schedules vary widely from month to month.

Pros

The pay was good. There was a generous reimbursement for mileage and expenses. It gives you a good preview of what a federal job would entail and if it would be the kind of work that would suit you.

Cons

Getting people to answer their door is difficult in this day and age although I worked in a rural area which made it easier. It is a temporary job. It is hard to list as a reference with a reliable contact since almost all staff and supervisors work on a temporary basis as well.
