Pros

Your fellow officers and sailors. You will meet some great people in the military.

Cons

Management is often incompetent. Issues when trying to change a unit's direction due to the "we have aways done it this way" mentality. Politics is also a player in the officer corps so watch yourself as things can and do come back to you.

Pros

Dynamic work environment. A great career. Usually great fellowship and satisfaction with mission. A job other people find interesting.

Cons

Could have long hours and extended time away from home. Frequent moves. Personnel management no longer treats members like family, resulting in personnel being treated with little or no consideration for family stability. Senior promotion is based on community and not on performance accross the corporation. Corporate headquarters in the Penagon, leaders are transiant in nature and are not held accountable for corporation performance. Poor resource planning often results in crisis management in the short term. Cannot transition from strategic vision to proper operational planning.

Pros

Benefits start from the first day. You never have to worry about "what to wear". Job Security. Education benefits are amazing. 100 per cent tuition assistance.

Cons

Uniforms. Can not plan a personal life more than a day in advance. You have no control over your life. While Ed benefits are great, you never have enough time to actually take classes. Talking to "management" is a fruitless task. In other words what you say to them doesn't matter. And don't bother making a decision, because they will just make their own, expect you to accomplish their decision, penalize you when you can't get it done and then ask when you will make a decision. The "managers" don't actually have to know how to do the job of the people they try to manage in order to be put in the position they are, just by their position only.
