Pros

Everyone always mentions the benefits, but specifically there is a cash bonus. They have good talent. If you like working with offshore people there's alot of that. Able to work from home on occasion. Good intern program. 12 week paternal leave. Constant OT pay for Hourly employees. If you play nice and do what you're told and kiss up there's probably way more perks.

Cons

It is an unspoken mandatory rule you have to work 44 hours at the very minimum. Only when I'm sick do I ever only work 44, most of the time its more and I'm very tired. Because there is an annual cash bonus they underpay on average. a lot of meetings Finding a good manager is hard. For me, impossible because my bad manager is metaphorically strangling me to stay. I can't have open conversations with them. Despite my fantastic performance I am devalued based on my age and experience (which I'm up to 5-6 years in professional software development) Too many meetings As a "people company" you're required to have a relationship with someone before they'll do their job. Wouldn't be a problem if their entire infrastructure wasn't based on requests to other teams. Moving code takes forever. A lot of meetings Remote employees get forgotten. There is so much more. The culture feels more of a brainwashing as in all the stuff you get is sooo much better than other companies. Where some of that may be true, I feel like if it was good the company shouldn't have to tell you that every single day. Just an opinion. I care about their mission of providing services to the military and their families, that's not the culture I'm talking about. To me it seems borderline Stockholm syndrome.

Pros

Benefits are amazing, generous 401k, a ton of time off, flexible schedule, great healthcare, nice gym, holiday and performance bonus. The IT area gets a lot of perks because we aren't tied to our desks being on the phone, the atmosphere and dress code is relaxed and the culture is pretty easy going. Ping pong tables, wii, and pool are commonly found around the office, but if you're really working you rarely have time to use them anyway. Work is generally challenging and engaging. The job is very easy if you are willing to let things go that don't strictly follow under your responsibility and you CYA.

Cons

Employees are promoted purely on tenure and not on performance within the first 6-8 years at the company, at least within IT. This is extremely discouraging, particularly for high performing employees. Many college hires started working at the company with the understanding that their performance would determine their career progression and were promised promotions within the next few months upon increased performance. Once the policy change to promote on tenure was implemented these employees were told they would have to wait twice as long even though they were doing their job at the next level weeks prior according to management. Teams often contain complacent members as the company is reluctant to let underperforming employees go. Mediocrity is often accepted as high performance, support from management can make or break your experience. The salary is below average but is supposed to be made up for in benefits which is somewhat true. Culture/kool-aid can be a bit much but it is a great mission and the company probably actually lives their culture more than most.

Pros

Great benefits, including a stellar 401k package, onsite fitness centers, Starbucks, cafeteria, recreation fields, etc. Get to work with smart individuals who are dedicated to the mission of serving our mission and focused on delivering the deadlines (even if that means staying after 5 p.m. or working odd hours)

Cons

It's a big company and sometimes the politics are overwhelming. Definitely have to learn how to overcome that. All in all, Senior Management favors certain individuals for promotion over others too.
