Pros

EVERYTHING ties to the mission statement. Everything. Usaa has an amazing chemistry and awesome corporate culture that are truly irreplicable. Benefits are excellent including a sizable annual bonus for all employees, free gym and onsite clinics, 1:1 401k matching up to 8%, education card to pay for education expenses, and the list goes on...

Cons

It can be a challenge to “get off the phones” but at the same time qualified, dedicated employees will find their place within the organization. And hey it beats the alternative.

Thank you so much for your review, and for your years of service! We do care deeply about our employees, and we are happy to provide things like tuition assistance, license exam prep, and leadership development programs to help people achieve their long-term career goals. However, know that we do love our phone representatives as well! They play a crucial role in providing great service to USAA members. We’re happy to see them move on to other roles within USAA, if that is their goal, but we definitely appreciate the work they do on the phones.

Pros

- First company I've ever worked for that truly loves its Members and Employees - Salary is mid range (actually took pay cut to come here) but is made up for in yearly bonus - Amazing work life balance

Cons

- Company isn't afraid to spend money so that makes the appetite for efficiency not as strong as most other companies - A lot of middle management layers creates for a lack of accountability

USAA has Changed....

Pros

Pay is decent for the local area. For the industry it's lower than average. The focus on work-life balance USED to make up for this but unfortunately it seems that's on it's way out... 401k match was good at around 8%. Had great management at the local levels - in my experience at least. Higher they are though, less so by far. Especially the top-most levels.

Cons

When I started here I loved it because USAA clearly valued their employees as human beings first and foremost and had a great work-life balance. That was then and this is now however...Over the past 1-1.5 years there has clearly been a big shift...rumors are that if you live within 60 miles of an office you will be forced to return to office 4x days a week and it will contribute to performance review...I couldn't imagine spending 1.5+ hours twice a day driving 60 miles into an office 4x days a week to then get online and join a zoom meeting because we never have in-person meetings in-office regardless... The worst part is during COVID and while we were remote our productivity was through the roof and awards continued to come in...makes 0 sense for them to do this...unless they are trying to thin the ranks and avoid paying severance o_0 Regardless, this company made it to the 100-year mark because of their long-term strategy and focus on members AND employees as human beings first and foremost....with their current short sighted focus on $$$$ I doubt we'll see it happen again.
