lack of career advancement with those with advance degree

In my area and many others I'd wager, they put an emphasis on getting attention for yourself. Everyone is so busy trying to shine that they don't actually get any quality work done. I am happy to do whatever needs to get done and if I see something that needs done, I'll do it, but I'm not comfortable pushing my way in front of others to make sure the suits see me. It is a waste of energy and is the main issue I have working at USAA. It isn't even that I mind it. The problem is that if I don't do that, I'm either held back or risk getting let go. So much has been said to me by my otherwise wonderful supervisor. I also don't like having to stroke egos. We're all on the same team, let's sit down and find a solution. Having to treat people who are paid by the same company as clients rather than peers just seems unnecessary. It too is a waste of energy.
