      threats off being fired/downsized always loom. efforts to"coach to better' perfomace is counterproductive

      Pros

      This is an easy job that pays pretty well and isn't going to stress you out. Most non-management IT workers put in an 8-5 day and no more. There are good benefits (medical, 401k, on-site gyms, etc) that make it hard to beat.

      Cons

      There is very little room for someone to really grow well-rounded technical skills. People are forced into very specialized jobs with no insight into other areas. Additionally, heavy duty technical implementations are contracted out to India or outside vendors. IT staff more often than not are babysitters to external contractors just to make sure they have what they need. Most IT employees never get in deep enough to fully understand anything.

      Pros

      Great compensation and benefits. You get to work for a great mission and be a part of a team. Very nice campus.

      Cons

      Somewhat of a cutthroat environment. Old military culture leaves room for the "I've earned my stripes" it's time to be promoted. A lot of pseudo managers that look or play the part without much substance. There is no strategic direction put into action. Everyday is a ratrace to give management a product or the world will end.
