They call themselves remarkable. They're remarkably bad.

Pros

This is a large healthcare organization with a lot of opportunities to move around and potentially advance your career. There are some amazingly talented people who work in the organization.

Cons

It's too large. It's like working for a slow, lumbering beast. UW shouldn't stand for the University of Wisconsin, but should, in fact, stand for U Wait. There are so many layers that must be navigated to get anything accomplished and many of the managers, directors, and upper tier leadership are only out to increase their own power. There is a complete lack of communication and no clear direction.

Pros

Health insurance and retirement package

Cons

-Limited room for transfers or advancement -Terrible Management -As a provider, I still have to interact with this company and have never dealt with ruder people who think they are better than you when trying to facilitate patient care -Poor access to care-if you can wait weeks or months, than you may get a visit -They are so far in debt because of constant construction that they are looking at employee layoffs -I've never worked anywhere where management felt so threatened by people doing advanced certifications or degrees

Pros

I still work here because I love my coworkers.

Cons

Where to begin? I thought this would be my “forever job.” It was my dream to work here. The first few months were pretty good, then leadership had their way and of course this ruined everything. There are SO many layers to leadership at this organization. Your dept leadership can be fantastic and want the same things as you… but the powers that be above that level are just horrible. All about the money, absolutely not about patient care and for sure there is no regard for their employees. I know people - PAs, RNs, MDs, xray techs, therapists - throughout this organization who too are unhappy for very similar reasons. It’s sadly not department specific. They truly believe everyone is replaceable (which to some degree is true … if you want your organization filled with a bunch of brand new graduates). If you can’t make your employees happy, you can’t retain talent and in turn you can’t provide the remarkable care you market. Also, as an educational institute they rarely are able to retain their residents as attendings - most go elsewhere for more money and more respect.
