Pros

Nice facility in middle of nowhere west Madison. If you’re old, like >55 you’re in the right place.

Cons

Can’t change process or thoughts to save themselves. Miserable managers. Incompetent decision making. Zero incentive to do more than minimum because you won’t be rewarded for hard work. If you enjoy working in a 1970’s IBM you’re in the right spot. 20-40 year olds need not apply. This place will suck the life from anyone energetic, creative or motivated.

Pros

Supports phenomenal work/life balance. Compensation and benefits are top notch.

Cons

Within the past year, the trend seems to slowly take away from employees actually being able to be progressive, proactive and just get work done, management wants to literally know every single thing that is happening. You have to wait months just to get simple changes done and you have to wait for one individual to bless you to work. Micromanaging every single decision has become the norm, and a lot of individuals aren't technically competent enough to be making these decisions. Teams don't communicate. Teams refuse to work together. Teams roadblock each other as much as possible. Ego reigns and end user/physicians/patients suffer. Also, as much as they say they want to facilitate learning, this is only for selected people that have favor in the eyes of whatever director likes them. There are no pathways for promotion, no pathways for education to help your career goals and no discussions about where they are in the process. It's been a year since we heard they might be creating new jobs/titles for individuals who want to either be technical or managerial and it was six months ago they were supposed to let us know what those were. Also, loyalty matters little. You could be a stellar employee for years but they will totally hire outside of UW Health for a position you are totally qualified for.

Pros

- You'll meet some nice coworkers that you can vent to about UW Health. - If you're lucky you'll get a free UW shirt. How exciting.

Cons

Poor pay. Mix that with being short staffed and you realize you're working twice as hard for half the pay. -Kaplan loves his money and the board but could care less about his employees. -Patient care suffers because of how short staffed the hospital is. -The benefits are decent but by no means are anything to stick around for. -Management is a revolving clown show.
