Satisfaction depends heavily on who you report to

Pros

Work-from-home opportunity, 401k, Stock purchase options, I can split my paycheck into 3 different accounts (makes saving easier), I can borrow from my 401k in an emergency (and I have), I can decide what to do with my investments through the company, PTO that increases with tenure, discounts at local businesses and national (Apple, AT&T, etc) companies. The advantage of the company size is that you can explore all kinds of career options and, if you're fortunate enough to have a manager who is invested in you, you can look into other options, take assessments, partner with someone already doing the job, etc. Our United Culture is very much in place and is growing, and the annual employee survey is taken seriously. The work-life balance on my team is excellent. In fact, I'm having to use some FMLA time to take care of an aging parent and my boss is extremely supportive in that. I'm coming up on my 20th Anniversary and I have no plans to go anywhere else.

Cons

No day care offerings, production expectations can be stressful. I no longer work in UHC, where everything is about number of widgets per hour, but I know that there is a big brother feeling there and a no tolerance policy for working extra time (some people have been working mandatory overtime for YEARS). Happines on the job is heavily dependent on who you report to, unfortunately. There are people in management positions who don't belong there, and attrition from the teams should be able to help pinpoint who those people are. I had the boss from hell for awhile and she had it in for me (don't know why). Fortunately for me, I was able to move from UHC to Optum, which is a big breath of fresh air - no one throwing me under the bus, a manager who is excited to have me and thanks me often for the work I do, a whole lot of people living the United Culture / our Values and Principles.

Pros

The money was good, that was the best part. I did like the 4 day work week.

Cons

It is impossible to see 9 visits in 10 hours while driving up to an hour to each persons house. You may end up charting on your own time till 10pm at night. It makes me mad just thinking about it. You are overtime exempt, meaning anything that exceeds 40 hrs is required and you won't be paid for it.

Don't pay out PTO

Pros

Great management, awesome coworkers, relatively good pay, good stock purchase plan.

Cons

DID NOT PAY OUT PTO TIME WHEN LEAVING COMPANY. USE YOUR PTO BEFORE YOU LEAVE. WAS LED TO BELIEVE BY MGMT THAT IT IS, BUT HR CLAIMS THEY ONLY DO SO IN STATES THAT REQUIRE IT BY LAW (MINE ISN'T ONE). Company health insurance is bad in comparison to previous employers, which is counter-intuitive, being a health insurance provider.
