Pros

Some flexibility with work schedule. Decent benefits.

Cons

Crooked management at the top. Some employees could get away with everything, yet others were criticized and treated badly just to try to get rid of them when they didn’t agree with the toxic culture. Hostile environment to work in. Unsure what I would be wrongfully accused of next.

Pros

The patients are so fun. You will meet some of the most intelligent, funny and interesting humans ever! They are not always easy to work with, but they are going through emotional pain while potentially being mistreated in a healthcare setting - so it is understandable.

Cons

UHS is huge. More than one of their hospitals have had controversy because of how awful they treat patients. I witnessed verbal, emotional and physical abuse toward patients. I witnessed a lack of ethics among much of the staff. The management at the Winston Salem location, as well as the CEO, seem to be concerned with making money and filling beds with people who sometimes shouldn’t even be there. We almost killed 2 people due to incompetence from nursing staff. It’s extremely dirty, filthy. I saw roaches, black mold and all kinds of nasty. No matter how often I tried to get management to step in, they always just said - this is how it is. They are not concerned with being socially responsible in anyway. For future mental health professionals, this will be a test in your ethics. Many of the supporting staff will show up for their shift whenever they feel like it. Your relief is an hour late? Oh well, you have to stay until they show up. The mental health education training they provide is outdated and they still use terminology from the 90s. Lots of HIPPAA violations too, leaving very sensitive patient information out so it is visible to all patients.

Pros

Toxic culture and inept leadership is out in the open

Cons

Worst company culture I have ever experienced. Woman make less than men and they are proud of it. Zero flexibility and they keep piling on the work but won’t hire new positions. Everyone is looking to get out. I’m so glad I finally escaped the cult.
