Pros

Good benefits and fair salary. Some upward mobility. I worked at one of their acute psychiatric clinics and they did help a lot of people with drug and alcohol problems.

Cons

Conflict of interest when you are making a profit off of people's suffering. I worked on the acute psychiatric ward and the staff to patient ratio was very unbalanced for the acuity of the unit. We had patients whom had histories of being combative and assaultive with no additional security to help with crisis situations. We took on a lot of inappropriate patients who needed more long term care just to increase the census and make more profit.

Pretty good place to work

Pros

Because the patient population is so diverse, there is a lot of opportunity to gain experience with different groups of people. You can work with children, dual diagnosis and severe psychological disorders all in one place. The experience fosters professional growth.

Cons

At times you will find yourself feeling you work for insurance companies instead of for the clients. As a result, the demands placed on staff are, at times, tedious and excessive.
