Pros

The people working with the First Year Experience department are positive, high-energy people. The organization works hard to produce effective results, and I have had opportunities to grow and develop a number of important skills that I will be able to apply to any future resumé

Cons

It's not always easy to work with freshmen; often the new students are dissatisfied with the mandatory orientation. It can be hard to maintain a constantly positive and high-energy attitude toward them. The work is fast-paced and demands a lot of energy. Regardless, I enjoy it.

Pros

School is growing rapidly, and the diversity is growing with it. Benefits are ok--insurance used to be amazing, but it has gotten worse every year. The on-site gym is amazing. The food court is getting better all the time. Faculty are cool. It's fun to be around students. You meet a lot of great people.

Cons

Pay for staff sucks, and never seems to get any better, merit pay is pretty much unheard of. There's an old guard/new way of thinking split, and watch your back if you step out of line with either group. No one will confront you directly if they have a problem with you, but you can be sure that you'll hear from your supervisor, or your supervisor's supervisor for a minor grievance. The passive aggressive culture needs to be reigned in majorly.
