Pros

Flexibility, decent pay, decent benefits, but honestly not many positives to say about this university. The universities has grown over the years mainly because parents want their kids in Utah county but many students can't get into BYU anymore so they go to UVU high instead.

Cons

Lots of passive aggressive staff, employees are lazy and try to do the very bare minimum for their jobs and most get away with it. Tons of staff double dip and teach or prepare for class while doing their regular staff position and most supervisors look the other way. Environment breeds mediocrity, lies and unethical practices.

Pros

I don't know yet, all I know is you have to deal with entitled students.

Cons

I left my previous job to join this amazing teaching job only to realize that the standards of the department and students is so low. Students are not at all held to normal university standards. The students basically run the show and the professors do what the students want. It is a classic example of the "Parent trying to be the student's best friend". So make tests easy so that students love you, allow plagiarism and cheating, otherwise you are being too harsh. Students have no respect for teachers I guess unless they are of the same religious background and are male. Classic problem with anything in Utah. Not to mention, the university brags about its increasing enrollment rates....but what about having the highest non-graduation rates? What are they doing about that?

Pros

- Work has impact - some great people work at UVU - For the most part the schedule is very nice, based on the school year. - Usually about 2 weeks off for holidays - no work on federal holidays - benefits

Cons

- not a ton of room for growth - a LOT of office politics - bad leadership and management depending on where you are - not great pay - burnout is bad - people resigning left and right so your workload is rough - Lack of transparency - drama ALWAYS - not a lot of support and appreciation - if you did well they bare acknowledge it but if you made mistakes you never hear the end of it
