Not good for hospitalist

Pros

Good coworkers, Efficient hospital - things get done, Good hospital staff - rns, case managers, pt/ot are hard working and good to work with, Salary and bonus is above average for area, Location of hospital

Cons

Constantly overworked in terms of hours/patient load/number of night shifts, Hospitalist directors not truly concerned with hospitalist morale or well being (only look to replace old physicians when workload is unbearable for many months), High turnover of hospitalists (multiple MDs who have left during first 3 months of job & many other MDs have left during last couple years), stagnant salary (does not increase any with experience, no cost of living increase), poor schedule compared to other hospitalist programs (lots of night shifts, very little notice on getting next month's schedule - usually less than a week ), poor leadership - lots of failed promises by medical directors, not good job if you want to have family or life outside of work, not a position that anyone can be at for more than a couple years.

Pros

Hires new graduate nurses, Offers New grad classes. This hospital will make you tough and you will learn to become an independent nurse.

Cons

Floor full of new grad nurse not a lot of experienced nurses to turn to for help/advice. Some nurses are every man for himself mentality. turn over rate ridiculous. Nurse patient ration ridiculous. "pick out your schedule" to have it be denied and chosen for you. Charge nurse can't be of too much help because they have a patient case load themselves. So much to type not enough time. Worry more about HCAP scores then employee safety /happiness.

Deaf ears, little care

Pros

The patients are happy! Patient care comes first. The admin makes this clear, no matter how this effects the worker.

Cons

“Getting out of here soon?” I’d be asked this, with much left to do, no help offered, though I’d ask, more work given, support staff missing, and just shrug. So many different answers I used to give but gave up because there would be no change in the result. Let the work go undone, and that’s ALL you hear about. Salary should not mean long hours of unpaid overtime.
