First I would like to say that I worked at vacations to go for 2 ½ years. I came in with 17 individuals and when I left there were just 3 of us left. Most left on their own a few were let go. The week ones lasted less than 6 moths most everyone else was gone by my second year. I am great on the phone and I know it and know how to sell. When I left my closing rate was 27 percent and My customer service score was at about 95 percent. High enough to get there 100 dollar bonus every month for the last 6 month. I am going to explain to you how this company works so you will have the benefit of my time there.
This is a commission job and if you don’t mind working a lot of hours and working on the weekends you can make 50 to 70 your first year but understanding what you are in for would be prudent. Here are a few bullet points to get started.
When someone buys a cruise you get paid when they pay in full. Most of the time unless there leaving in 90 days there will be a deposit and if they do not cancel you get paid once the customer pays in full. This seems like a small point but keep in mind over the period of a year you might have 250,000 to 400,000 in future deposits. If you leave…..you leave all that behind.
You get paid once a month. After you get off their four month salary if you do not have a lot of deposits you will probably not last unless you work a lot of hours.
Your closing rate, customer service score and surveys make up the heart of what they view as success. If you are not strong on the phone they will micro manage you.
The more calls you take the more people will call in when you are not around which affects your customer service score. This cycle you can master but you will not do it in 40 hours. Most of the agents answer email from home when they are off.
The schedules are determined by seniority. Or so they say. It will take about 5 years to get to a Monday thru Friday shift. The people on those shift normally don't go anywhere because overtime they pick up return customers so maybe 30 to 40 percent of their business is return business.
I left Vacations To Go and got a job that pays 50 a year and I have weekends off. Make sure that you are ready to commit to the time and the schedule before you jump because once you do there is no turning back.
