Pros

Nothing positive about working for this company. It is a scam.

Cons

This company is a scam. They have almost 100% turnover within the first year of employment. Earning opportunity is grossly overstated, and job security is non existent. Their advertising is very misleading. Do not waste your time with this company.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that your experience at Vacations To Go left you feeling mislead. We appreciate your feedback and can certainly understand that this sales position may not be a perfect fit for everyone. We do our best to be as open as possible during the hiring process and explain the ins and outs of the position, as our number one goal is to find qualified individuals who are also a perfect fit for the job and company culture. Being a commission-based position, earning potential is unlimited, and some of our agents do go above and beyond to reach their own personal sales goals. It’s one of the best parts about being employed as a travel counselor at Vacations To Go -- you can work as many hours as you want to make as much money as you want. That said, most of our employees work very little to any overtime and exceed our minimum sales goals and many also qualify for our top sales bonuses. We are proud to say that we currently have 300+ employees with more than 5 years of tenure and over 100 with 10 years of tenure or more. While your employment with us didn’t work out, we wish you the very best with your future endeavors.

Some great employees but a toxic company culture

Pros

There are some great people who work here, so if you're on a team with a good manager it can be a very rewarding experience. They only promote from within so there are growth opportunities and reasons to stay loyal to the company.

Cons

Unfortunately, COVID-19 is still a big issue so it's hard to have a positive outlook for the company at the moment. They are also not very flexible - this is a job that can 100% be done from home yet everyone was forced to come back into the office in July 2020 (no that's not a typo - 2020, not 2021.) Not only did this seem irresponsible but it also showed a complete lack of regard for the health, safety, and well-being of the employees, especially those with underlying health issues or small children. Depending on your department or team, favoritism can play a bigger role in promotions than actual merit, and it's an issue that goes up to the CEO, Alan Fox. It's a badly-kept secret that he's promoted some women based on who he finds attractive (or in at least one case, who he has had an inappropriate relationship with) and he has been known to make lewd comments to women at holiday parties and flirt at the office. I have never heard of any other C-level executive engaging in this behavior, so it seems to be a problem with just him. Unfortunately though, he's ultimately the face of the company.

We appreciate your feedback. COVID has been an unprecedented event and like many industries around the world, the travel industry was hit hard. That said, cruises are sailing again and passengers are ready to live out their long-overdue desire to vacation! Our inability to answer all customer incoming calls is a testament to that! When employees were asked to return to the office, we allowed anyone with underlying health concerns, or who were caring for adults or children to continue working from home. Currently, about half of our employees still work from home full time. In the office, masks are required when away from your desk, and all desk assignments are spaced out to satisfy social distancing protocols set forth by the CDC. Additionally, we now offer all employees with at least 6 months of tenure the opportunity to work a hybrid schedule, working both from home and in the office. This allows us to return to the culture and camaraderie we are known for, while still offering the flexibility and convenience of working from home. Favoritism of any kind never plays a role in promotions at Vacations To Go. We are proud of our management team, and we promote employees based on their hard work and the feedback of multiple members of management and upper management. Alan Fox founded Vacations To Go over 35 years ago, has a 95% approval rating on Glassdoor, and is well-respected among employees and his industry peers alike. That said, our human resources department treats all claims of inappropriate behavior very seriously, no matter who the offending party is. While we have not been made aware of any incidents at this time, HR has an open-door policy. If there is ever a situation that makes anyone uncomfortable in any way from an employee on any level, we highly encourage the employee to step forward so the situation can be properly investigated and addressed. Thank you for your many years of service and dedication to Vacations To Go and your customers. We’re happy to discuss any additional concerns you may have.

Pros

No cold calling because the website drives all the business to you. You can take as many leads as you want, as long as you are providing good customer service and your scores are good (or above average). There is a general script to follow (called a Recap summary) but you do have flexibility to negotiate your own deals. As long as your scores are good, they pretty much leave you alone to do your thing. Occasional call reviews with a manager, to make sure you are using the script. I would say the top 40 agents in the cruise department make $100k or more with the top agent around $200K. Most agents make around $50k-$80k. Opportunity to earn free cruises (Sell 3, sail for free) and the perks from being a Travel Agent are nice. Complete the Marriott training for discounted Marriott hotel stays! Some cruise lines give you free cruises just for completing their training programs.

Cons

Travel consultants are expected to handle the customer service aspects as well. So after making the booking, you service the client until after they depart for their cruise. This can mean changing dining times, changing sail dates, re-pricing their cruise to a lower fare, etc. Since this is a 100% commission based job, this can be very time consuming and prevents you from making more money. After 5 years on the job with excellent customer service, most of my clients will call me directly for ALL service. Some days I cannot take new leads or even make new bookings because of the amount of service I have. Its getting to the point that I will not be able to take any new leads for an entire week at a time. And you do not get paid on the booking until they pay in full (90 days before sail date). So just because you make a booking, you are not guaranteed to make a commission on that sale. I think the longer you have been with the company, your commission % should increase because of the amount of service involved. When you buy a car from a car salesman, you shouldn't expect him to be able to change your oil and rotate your tires (because you have a service department for this). In order to be successful, you must work long hours during "Wave" season and especially when you first start out. Typically have to work the night shift/ and or weekends starting out.
