Pros

-Unlimited PTO -The two previous locations of the office were very centrally located in Denver -Free food and drinks when people were laid off -Trips to different cities/states

Cons

-Lack of professional development -Lack of direction -Lack of professionalism -High turnover. You can guarantee layoffs every Thanksgiving, Christmas, and beginning of the new year -Lack of trust. Management breathes down your back and doesn't trust you are capable of doing your job if they can't see you -Too many "yes" people in the workplace that answer to the CEO. -CEO has poor interpersonal skills. Comes in yelling at the entire office when frustrated, sends threatening emails, and makes it very clear who the favorites are -Unethical practices -No accountability for higher positions and this gets trickled down and projected on to floor staff

Thanks for taking the time to review your experience with Vangst on Glassdoor. We know Glassdoor plays an important role in helping prospective candidates get a feel for what it’s like to work at Vangst, so your feedback means a lot to us. While we’re glad that you were a fan of our flexible PTO policies and the travel and commute perks that go along with working at Vangst’s Denver headquarters, we’re definitely not happy to hear that other parts of your experience were less ideal. I wanted to take the time to personally address a few areas where our viewpoints diverge: We pride ourselves on the direction and professional development goals we’ve set for the Vangst Team - our 3-Year vision statement and formal goal setting frameworks have gotten strong feedback from the internal team and they’ve helped us shape tangible results year over year. We also educate and align all management on Vangst’s policies and processes for team-wide professional development. While we wish it were different, we’ve been impacted by COVID-19 and external business factors just like many other companies both within and outside of the cannabis industry. While we never want to make a reduction in our workforce, when we have done so it has been to position Vangst for long-term success, and we’ve done our utmost to act with transparency and empathy. As we’ve shifted to remote, we get strong general feedback from all employees that we’ve maintained a productive, trusting culture. Vangst does set high standards for all employees, and we understand that regular proactive communication and consistency in sharing progress toward ambitious goals may not be a culture fit for everyone. We pride ourselves on being open, honest, and transparent with one another when issues arise, and we’ve built a strong office rapport as a result. As the CEO, however, I certainly take your feedback to heart. Regular check ins with my direct reports and our larger team help me to understand how I can continually be the best leader I can be. If you want to talk more about your experience at Vangst with our People Team, we’d love to get in touch. Please feel free to reach out any time to continue the conversation. -Karson p.p. Pros

Recruiters and in house devs are talented, motivated, and enthusiastic. Overall great co-workers. You get a pizza party when people get fired!

Cons

Management froze dev salaries 3 days before the one year performance review. Reason given was: "app is not profitable" - if you have even a small understanding of what engineers do this should be a red flag. Engineering management has no authority or autonomy and is forced to follow the whims of C levels who do not participate in the engineering/product process. Entire product team was recently outsourced and the development team is probably next. I would speculate that the (functional but admittedly flawed) product that is already released and handling every user Vangst GIGS has is likely to be scrapped. If that is the case it will be rebuilt at extraordinary cost as they are to be built by an external consultancy that was recently hired. Market research was seemingly an afterthought and even after it was done it was largely ignored. This companies oversight regarding engineering is the epitome of seagull management.

Pros

Great work life balance and flexibility with schedule

Cons

So many hands in the pot there’s never clear communication on processes. Everyday there was some change. CEO relies on her ‘leadership team’ to give her updates on the rest of the company but they are very biased and clicky.
