Pros

Really liberal travel expense policy! Probably the only company out there who’ll finance a 3-year affair with an employee who lives and works 2,000 miles away, while giving you the opportunity to fly first class all the time, dine at multiple Michelin Star restaurants, stay at top-tier hotels & resorts, and rent high-end cars as long as you’re able to get where you’re supposed to be (when you’re supposed to be there) to be the ‘face of Vanguard.’ Great opportunities to be able to ‘work’ remotely from beaches, resort pools, your backyard, etc., with company-paid laptops and jet packs, as long as there’s a cell signal.

Cons

Cult-like culture that claims to value diversity, while managing out experienced employees who are a detriment to the EEO equation in an effort to save the company money. Little chance to get anywhere petitioning the industry regulatory agency headed by the former CEO, after the company makes disparaging comments in an effort to prohibit employment opportunities with competitors.

Pros

Good insurance benefits and good retirement benefits. A great place to work if you're lazy, unambitious, or you want to be semi retired and pick up easy paychecks.

Cons

The company does not know how to put the right talent in the right places. They will stick people with no experience in the financial industry in high level finance places and will not promote the right people into the right positions. There is no clear career path, and trying to get to a position that's somewhat interesting will take many more years that at other firms. They severely underpay their employees

Pros

Strong focus on work/life balance , many opportunities to move within different parts of the organization (atypical based on other employers I've worked for)

Cons

"Outsiders" are looked upon skeptically by long tenured employees. Different perspectives, based on principled, industry standards, are often shunned. The company very much values "checking the box" type exercises/groups which get you recognized in evaluations, but provide no real benefit to career development. There is an obsession with your title. Many people with higher grade levels demand deference and are quite pretentious.
