Pros

-401k match is ok/ but 4% match and 10% match of your pay a quarter isn't much when your pay is squat. -Starting point for those that come in unlicensed

Cons

-This is not a "real" investment company/ investment job. It is a phone job. You're a live body making sure their are not too many people waiting. The phrase "Wal-Mart of investing" is thrown around a lot concerning Vanguard, and it's true. They will pay you peanuts compared to the competition, but when trying to leave the competition either hires you out of pity because they started their too or you get a "Vanguard, that's nice" since the name holds no weight with the "big boys" -Every job is the same with a different title. It doesn't matter if your a client relationship associate, dual hat, or in a specialized division.. you're there to get the client off the line as fast as possible. -Shortened lunches are now the norm. No one wants your "free" lunches when you supply them from the Sodexo cafeteria. -Employees are treated as cattle, unless you're ethnicity is not-white or you're a girl. If you're both you'll be a shining star.

Pros

Very good benefits package and decent work/life balance.

Cons

The decisions made by management are born out of a need to put feathers on caps rather than serve the needs of the clients. Internally, their organization restructuring has a terrible impact on morale. The changes I've personally witnessed show clearly Vanguard's disregard for experience and specialized knowledge. They do not respect their long-term loyal employees. For example, currently they are restructuring Flagship. They have hired mainly outside reps, and they have denied positions to current reps who are now forced to continue servicing their existing clients with smiles on their faces while given virtually no time to perform their new task of going out and finding a job within the company. Now the clients who are being serviced by these new outside people are suffering while these rookies are trying to figure out the Vanguard systems and process. Vanguard promised these clients that as Flagship members, they would get more experienced reps, but that is a promise they are ignoring.

Pros

The pay, and benefits. The value the company provides for it's clients

Cons

The politics in the IT department is stifling, if you are not a member of one of the political clicks you don't have any real chance of advancement. Most of the senior management team in IT does not have a technology background. nor do they have any skill as managers. Career development is pushed off to the the employees. The culture is ultra weird, it's almost like prison, "To get along you go along". The Senior management team believes they are smarter then everyone as an example, they take six sigma, change it and then rename it Vanguard Unmatchable Excellence. Because we're so smart we run the most bizarre configurations on our machines which leaves all of our vendors shaking their heads in confusion.
