Pros

Lots of training is provided. Everyone is willing to help you achieve your goals. You will meet many coworkers just getting out of college and will have a chance to really build out your network.

Cons

Low pay. As a low-cost provider of investment services, Vanguard's salaries are low. The benefits are good. Great launching pad for a career.

Pros

It's easy to feel good about working for Vanguard, because you always feel like you're doing the right thing for the client. It's a good place to start a career. They have a good training program and you can fairly easily move up or across, and try different things.

Cons

Vanguard is very "clubbish," and has a very strange passive-aggressive culture. They have a pattern of pushing out people who reach a certain age and at a certain level by undermining them at every turn. Perhaps it's their constant focus on the bottom line--once you reach a certain pay level, unless you're solidly in the very small club, you're going to be targeted. This is particularly true with women.

Pros

Great work life balance, good lateral mobility, great 401(k) program, can gain good experience, pays for licensing

Cons

External hires always receive higher compensation than employees who work their way up, slow to change, bureaucratic, business model is frustrating for employees (company is constantly lowering expense ratios, i.e. their revenue, and then telling employees they don't have much money for raises / year-end bonuses)
