Pros

Good co-workers, on site cafe, decent pay

Cons

serious micro managing, no positive encouragement for success, errors included in metrics that do not belong to you, skip levels with your leaders boss are meaningless because you are in more danger speaking your mind about your current leader as most management are all good friends, company and their culture is changing a lot with the new CEO. Lay offs are being called terminations.

Pros

Flex schedule (if you can get it)

Cons

Hola friends. First of all I've noticed a lot of fake reviews out there. There is even a review where a manager admits that they are getting feedback from the top down to up the ratings on websites like glassdoor. So be careful to trust any lazy review that is maybe 60 words total where the pros and cons are both somehow the culture. Anyhoo, the biggest cons are how incredibly bloated the bureaucracy has gotten there and how conservative they are. Also I'm not really sure that they value their employees in any real or significant way. There are way too many levels of management, they could probably cut out an entire line of management and Average Joe Vanguard wouldn't even notice. It slows things down and leads to a management team that is wildly out of touch with your Joe Arizonas and Joe North Carolinas and Joe Malverns. Next they are so conservative, there are a million ways they could get people to be more productive such as letting people leave early if you get a ton of work done or doing more team collaborative work. Instead people just get their souls sucked out until 5 everyday and do just enough to get by. This leads to pretty significant worker inefficiencies. In regards to not valuing their employees it is pretty evident. Pay=value. Period. And anyone who will give you some kumbaya about how they care about you? Uh, no they don't, largely they treat you in a condescending way like you are a child and can't be trusted. The place is about as transparent as a cement wall.

Pros

There are no pros to working here. Every moment you spend at vanguard will be the worst moment of your life.

Cons

If you are interested in being challenged or learning anything of value, do not work here. You will sit on the phone all day everyday, listening to people complain about how annoying Vanguard is. My biggest regret after graduating college was taking this job, I learned absolutely nothing and hated every moment of it. If you are a college graduate looking for a job, DO NOT WORK HERE. There are so many other financial institutions/industries that you can work in that will give you a better opportunity to advance your career. I wasted 8 months of my life with this garbage company and I hope anyone reading this will think twice about working here. On the first day of training we were asked to get out our colored pencils and draw what a "Vanguard Superhero" looks like. Third graders take more intellectually stimulating classes then the training that takes place at Vanguard. These people who give "Investment Guidance" to Vanguard's clients know nothing, other than how to draw and have a positive attitude.
