Pros

Benefits package is great such as healthcare, dental, vision. They have a really great 401k match. They will pay for licensing.

Cons

The management is terrible! Most managers don't even know how a brokerage account works. The clients are always angry because there is consistently mass turnover and the new hires are poorly trained (probably because the trainers haven't touched a phone or gone through the works of a normal trade/client issue in over 15 years and the technology/rules have changed drastically). Every corporate environment has politics but Vanguards leads to terrible decision making that makes it a terrible work environment and terrible client experience. I would not wish a Vanguard job on my worst enemy, and I will not let my family invest there because of the poorly trained phone associates hitting the floor as a result of the mass turnover due to the way they treat their employees.

Pros

PTO policy is decent for starting out, plus you can deduct from your weekly pay in order to add time. 401k matching investment plan is good

Cons

After 15 years of doing everything that was ever asked of me (quite well at that - I regularly received awards from management and coworkers), I was nitpicked and harassed to the point that I took advantage of the early retirement. The abuse was so bad that on several occasions I needed medical attention for anxiety. (My supervisor KNEW that I was suffering PTSD from a car accident). Vanguard might be an ok place for someone starting out, but if you're and older person who's been there for years, you will be driven out in favor of younger (cheaper) new hires. They get around their no layoff policy by treating people like dirt to make them quit. I wouldn't recommend anyone staying at VG more than 5-6 years. After that, take your skills where you'll be appreciated. When I received my 'retirement' gift in the mail, I sent it back to them. That's how disgusted I am with them, but I'm sure they really don't care. They didn't while I worked for them.

Pros

Good friends, good benefits, work life bala ve

Cons

If you arent drinking the koolaid and trying to make things better you will be targeted. If you are over 50 and a white male, you definately are already being targeted, particularly if you are in Management (Get out if you can). They only care about having robots that toe the line and diversity, that is it! All those who wrote about management at Vanguard listen up. Managers at Vanguard are pressured to identify a certain number of "poor performers" every year, even if they have none. Pets are selected for the "talent watch list" and once they are on a list it is nearly impossible to get someone off (they really want women and diversity on the talent lists). If you are a manager with a diverse person on the list that is failing to develop further: 1) You can not get them off the list cause you will be executed. 2) If they fail you will be executed. 3) You are the problem not them. So what do you think happens? Managers coverup failures for people on the list, they move people to other teams, they are forced to promote people on the lists that they dont believe are ready. So you see all the failures of management called out in reviews here starts at the top. Managers have no choice but to drink the koolaid and play along or they are gone. If they are over 50 and a white male they will be gone anyway cause that is how they create promotional opportunities for those on the talent lists to move up and become managers themselves. Honestly there are many managers running to act like they love the koolaid, etc. and are hoping they can survive long enough to retire on their terms cause they can not really actually lead their teams like they want to. It is a horrible atmosphere to try and just survive in. If you try in the most gentle way to speak out or suggest improvements or try to lead your team as you know want to, management above you will deal with you harshly.
