Pros

-Good 401k benefits if you stay for 6 years and get fully vested -Pay for licensing and training -You will form good friendships with your new hire class and your peers are great for the most part -When the market is closed, the company shuts down -If you have a family and don't have any further career goals it's a solid job to make money and go home

Cons

If you are a new college graduate please take the negative reviews at face value because most of them are true. I have been working for VG for 7 months now and it is nothing like they said it would be while recruiting. You are told you will be working with clients on the phone but they also mention projects and other internships. You will never have time for projects or internships, you get an hour a month to pursue it and even if you manage to get that hour scheduled it will probably be cancelled due to high call volumes. You will take 30-60 calls all day every day. You get 30 minutes for break and it is all timed. They can take your hour lunch from you whenever they see fit making it hard to schedule appointments. Your coworkers may be great but good luck trying to talk to them because the phones are always ringing from 8 am to 7 pm Arizona time. The clients are often angry because most of your calls will be about how they forgot their user name or password, how there security codes aren't sending to them (which you can do nothing about), or how they filled in paperwork wrong and will have to redo it. Having to deal with clients who are clueless and upset all day is exhausting, non rewarding, and a majority of the time you do not even talk about finance. Also, even if you do want to help the client there are so many processes that are inefficient that it makes it impossible to do so. The technology is severely outdated which also interferes with your ability to do your job and help clients. My last con is regarding management and the company culture. You will be told that managers will work with you to try and move you on to the next position. I have been at this company 7 months and have never spoke to my manager about my future at vanguard. I know people who have been in this role for two years who have been applying for jobs that are not phone jobs and they have had no luck. The only jobs you will easily find after this role are phone jobs, also non-finance related for the most part. Company culture is also very poor. There are no office parties, no planned events to go out of the office, even during the holidays you will get one hour in the month to have a team potluck. How cheap is that? Overall Vanguard will treat you as a number and nothing more. You will be disposable at this company and they don’t have to care because they are so big. If you are a college grad please do not uproot your life for this job, it is not a once in a life tie opportunity. The employee turnover after one year is 70%, that should speak for itself. Vanguard boasts about how they are the best for the client and how they are low cost, but they do so at the expense of their employees.

Pros

If you are in a leadership position you basically walk on water. I know people out of college two years who are in senior management positions today. Don’t take the specialist route. You’re just a work horse who can never do enough.

Cons

Pay is way lower than the industry in every area. The performance management process is vague and ambiguous. Is applied at the discretion of your manager. Which means it does not matter what you do. It is up to your manager to decide they think you are worth giving a good rating. So what happens if your boss is crazy and only respects people who give their soul to a job? Bad rating. What if I want to improve? You will be given bs answers that basically say work harder and hope for the extra .025% to show up in a raise.
