Pros

Brand name. Commute is decent.

Cons

I honestly don’t know where to start! I joined this place with great enthusiasm. Fast forward 3 years and I feel suffocated in this environment. This place is very subjective and bottom line does not matter. You could work the hardest and bring in really great innovative ideas to find that mediocrity is celebrated here. Some of the crew are passive aggressive and even if you are their boss would collectively pull you down. Feedback is subjective and there are 4 performance evaluations that can drive you up the wall. Who evaluates 4 times? After being here, I have become an angry person - overworked and don’t trust anyone. People talk behind your back so if they don’t like you, you are doomed. Do not accept an offer if they give you one. Too many useless surveys where they keep asking if you are happy. Never have been asked in any other company except here. But this is the place I am most unhappy. They ask you to care about crew engagement but do not care for you because you are a manager. Apparently managers are not crew. Believe the other reviews that talk about vanguard being a cult and you have to drink the kookaid here. My confidence levels and morale is at an all time low while my anxiety levels are so high. Beware of this place!!!!

Pros

Good retirement plan. Benefits are on par with other large corporations. Free subscription to the WSJ.

Cons

Base salaries are too low. Management is a complete mixed bag. Team leaders are, for the most part, useless. A young worker looking to start a career wants one of two simple things from their manager (preferably both): on the job expertise and career development. Many of the supervisors lack both of these qualities. They are overpaid when most of them just baby sit and approve time sheets. Many of the finance jobs that you would expect to get out of college are competitive and networking is a must. If you want a serious career in finance do not accept a job on the phones or in operations unless you are willing to grind away at a monotonous job that does not challenge you. These jobs are so mind-numbing that you will question why you went to college. Management will treat you like a child and micromanage when they don't even know what you do on a daily basis. There is an endless list of frustrations but my advice is that if you find yourself in one of their entry level roles, start networking on day one.
