My standards and qualifications were way higher than the pay and respect
Pros
Flexible schedule and a paycheck
Cons
Where do I begin? For a company exceeding $1.35 billion, you would think they would pay their employees more. Along with that, I am in absolute shock to this day they can't pay their sales reps at the minimum, gas mileage. If you look at ANY other company with employee titles as "sales representatives", they most likely reimburse mileage at the very least - not at Varsity. They expect their sales reps to 1)pay for daycare 2)cold call accounts and drop off "gifts" and materials PAID by the sales rep as well (not reimbursed or expensed) 3) set consultation appointments with coaches 4) set fitting appointments with coaches and teams 5)attend camps, competitions, coaches clinics, etc... ALL without paying for the mileage and wear and tear on your vehicle. Over the years, they also just kept giving the reps more hats to wear without pay. Since the salary is a "draw" - they also don't have respect for longevity, hard work, and commitment as an employee to the company. If territory changes happen or even if you hit goal but don't meet their expectations, your "base pay" might and can decrease - it happened to be and was over $10,000. This is a great job if you want to start off in the sales field and add to your resume but do NOT expect to be respected as an employee and be prepared to be treated like a number. They pay their employees PART TIME PAY for FULL TIME WORK and expectations. I would have stayed with the company if they paid for mileage and about $20,000 more so I could actually do the work they wanted because it would enable me to afford daycare and do the job to my best ability. When you don't pay your employees for the work, don't expect them to work hard for the sales. I've also seen so many fellow friends and employees work their tails off for this company without any chance of advancement within the company. It's simply a pat on the back and a smile and I was NOT willing to take the time away from my family and personal life for that.
