Typical Profit-Motivated Corporation

Pros

There is useful work to be done. The top leadership seems fiscally responsible so the company will likely continue to exist for many years. The compensation is not bad.

Cons

They've had two layoffs in two years. One seemed to be largely about union busting. Management set up a culture that promotes competition much more than teamwork. Weird cult-like behavior regarding so-called values that only get applied when it best suits the bottom line. I was asked to do something that appeared to be clearly unethical for the first time in my career. Management is rampant with cronyism and misattribution of credit for accomplishments. A crucial part of how the company works involves exploiting cheap labor available in the gig-economy, so that doesn't feel great to be a part of.

Too stressful for the pay

Pros

Working from home is nice.

Cons

We are not given the tools we need to succeed. More and more responsibility (and volume) is added with no increase in pay. We consistently bring up issues in all hands meetings, only for them to be halfway answered or completely dodged with a blanketed "we're working on it". There's a huge breakdown in communication between teams, leaving us fighting amongst each other. There is an inconsistency with policies. Our protocol is changed with no notice. New software is released without being first properly tested, leaving us scrambling to figure out how to work around it. We are not asked for our feedback on what software changes would actually be the most beneficial. Just generally all around feeling undervalued, underappreciated, and underpaid. The values Veho says to uphold are honestly a huge joke. There is too much emphasis on growth and not enough on stabilizing existing processes. I do not have faith that this company will succeed.

Poor Leadership Stifles Progress

Pros

- Several teammates are truly intelligent, empathetic, and personable. Those are the individuals that kept me at Veho for the duration I was there and this review is not geared toward those people. - Remote work is nice for some. - Pay is typically higher than your average company, but that can be a double-edged sword.

Cons

Leadership is unreasonable with requests and expectations at many junctions. Personal examples include: - When I let my manager know that the only way an issue would have been resolved faster is if I had worked over a federal holiday, the response I received was "This is a 24/7 company." - When I volunteered to assist with one portion of a project after the original owner of said project left the company, I was then given responsibility for that entire arm of the business that the project lived within without consultation. When I let my manager know that I was not comfortable with owning the full responsibility and did not have prior experience, I was told that it was my responsibility regardless. - I was affected by multiple layoffs and promised at different points in time that I would receive support due to being the only individual in my role. After 1+ years, the support never materialized, even after multiple business case presentations were made to various managers. When I made a misstep due to the amount of work on my plate toward the end of my tenure, I was then told that I should have asked for help by my manager at that time. - Favoritism in hiring and promotions is common. - Communication across the board is lacking. Teams will consistently send out information and updates via email and/or Slack, but other individuals or teams won't read or implement the information, resulting in inefficiencies. - Over the past 1 to 1.5 years, the majority of women in leadership roles (Director level or higher) and LGBTQ+ employees in general have either been terminated or left the company.
