Mediocre management and few opportunities for growth

Pros

This company is decent for a first job out of college, and pay is ok for entry level positions. They’ve allowed employees to remain 100% remote if desired, and offer some flexibility in work schedule.

Cons

Most of middle management is comprised of white men hired directly after college who moved up largely due to tenure. Few of them have actual management training or strong leadership abilities, and it shows. Few opportunities for meaningful growth here, but there’s plenty of work to go around. I’ve come to expect frequent increases in responsibilities with dismal (if any) accompanying pay increases. Work life balance is not great. Workloads and stress levels are often high, and taking time off usually just results in a nightmare of work piled up when you get back. Training is lacking. The hands off/figure it out approach is often used, which puts a lot of pressure on new employees to teach themselves how to do their jobs well.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. While Veracross continues to grow rapidly, we are also investing heavily in our People & Culture initiatives, including leadership and management training, professional development, hiring a DEI Program Coordinator, and increasing diversity throughout management and the company. Work/life balance and enabling our employees to take the time off that they need is also a key focus area for our company. With three weeks of PTO, 14 paid holidays including the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day, and enabling employees to work during times that are most convenient for them, we continually strive to provide flexibility and balance for all members of the Veracross team. We will continue to invest in these critical areas and will hold ourselves accountable to ensure these tangible steps have an impact throughout all parts of our company.

Pros

-When we were in the office, the facilities are nice. Unlimited snacks, big offices with windows, and a small gym. Definitely a big perk if you spend 50+ hours a week there. The entire company is currently remote, so this is not a perk we can currently use. - Nice people. Most that you interact with at work seem to be genuinely good people who enjoy a team-oriented atmosphere.

Cons

- As other reviews have mentioned, this company is going through growing pains. The new executive board came in two years ago with a lot of promises and have failed to deliver on those that would benefit their employees: focusing instead on driving sales forward. - Favoritism: this continues to be a place that needs a strong dose of DEI. Management is incredibly dominated by white men, with only a handful of women and even fewer people of color. The decisions that are made by leadership reflect a very homogeneous outlook and consistently leave other experiences out of the conversation. HR is trying to solve this by prioritizing DEI in hiring, but this would take years to actually reach levels where all are represented in leadership. - Not a good fit for those who are ambitious/ career-oriented. There are no internal mentorship or professional development opportunities and those around you seem content to stick with their current role, from entry-level up through mgmt. Even training for managers is a rare occurrence so management is underskilled.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We have been working hard to make DEI a priority within the organization, including hiring a DEI Coordinator to work with DEI Committee, leadership, and hiring teams. Additionally, we are launching an internal mentorship program in 2022 as well as providing allocating more funds to professional development and management training. We did an employee survey in July, 2021 and have held several town hall meetings with our team to respond to Q&A and to keep them updated regarding our progress on our People & Culture plan,

Growing Pains

Pros

Veracross has amazing people. .

Cons

Veracross is growing too fast, leading to employee burnout for those that need to support school implementations and training. Upper management is not connected with how decisions affect the majority of staff. There is also not diverse leadership.

I am pleased to report that we have recently added both maternity and paternity leave benefits for our team members. While we are excited about the growth happening within our company, we are working with our team to learn how we can grow in a way that doesn't burden them as much. We are also continuing to enhance our recruitment efforts to promote more diversity within the company. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We appreciate it!
